John McKenzie is a professional commercial photographer Offering photographic services to the art world, including publishers, public & private Art galleries, museums, country houses, collections & numerous individual artists, sculptors & makers.

John is a highly experienced photographer with a loyal clientele, combining an eye for an arresting image with an in-depth knowledge of print production, colour management and graphic design.

John began his career in 1979 on archaeological digs as a photographer and draughtsman. After a period studying photography at Napier College he moved to New Zealand where he spent 6 years working in the print trade, learning colour management and print production skills that have proved invaluable. On his return to the UK John has worked exclusively as a photographer and has built up a considerable client list and has seen his work published in a huge array of national and international titles.

John can provide an end-to-end service, generating creative and evocative images for clients who may not posses a huge design team or commissioning editor. Equally, John's ability to collaborate and follow directions to realize his clients’ vision enables him to handle projects for clients of any size.

Aesthetically, John enjoys 'reducing complexity to its simplest elements' via innovative lighting and composition. John delivers a quality product, bringing a fresh eye and dedicated, person-centred service to your brief, be it traditional or contemporary in style.

Based just outside Edinburgh John works on location throughout the UK & internationally.
